How do I get to Andover Public Library?

Click here for driving directions and a map.

What is my password on the website?

Your password will be your last name in all lower case letters in most cases. If your last name has 3 letters, often the first letter of your first name is used. For example, if your name was Library Cat than your password would be lcat.

How can I check/renew my items online?

From the Andover Public Library website, click on Card Catalog (left side of screen).

Under the APL logo, click on My Account and Log in/Register.

You are automatically registered in the APL system when you apply for a library card. To log in, enter your barcode number (found on your library card) and your password (see above). You should now see your name on the left side of the screen.

Click on your name to see which items are checked out on your card, their due dates, the books you have requested, and any fines you might have on your account.

To renew items, click on Items Out.

This screen will show you the titles of books that are checked out on your card, the due dates, and how many renewals are available for each item.

An item with a 1 in the Renewals Left column (on the far right of the screen) can be renewed. An item with a 0, however, has no renewals available. Some items that cannot be renewed include DVDs, new books, activity kits, and books that have a hold placed on them.

If there is a fine or fee on your account, you cannot renew online until the fee is paid.

If all of your items are available for renewal, click Renew All Items at the bottom center of the screen. To renew specific items, click the box to the far left of the title you wish to renew. Once a check mark appears next to the items you wish to renew, click on Renew Selected Items at the bottom left of the screen. Items that cannot be renewed will not have a check box next to them.

The next screen will tell you if you have successfully renewed your items. If the computer was not able to renew your items, it will tell you the reason why.

Click on the Back button to return to the Items Out page to see your new due date.

How can I place a hold online?

From the Andover Public Library website, click on Card Catalog (left side of screen).

Type your search into the Quick Library Search box.

Once you have received the results of your search, you will see 3 buttons to the right of each listing: Availability, Full Display, and Place Request.

Availability tells you if an item is already checked out and when it is due.

Full Display gives you more information about the book. Also, it will give you the number of patrons who have a hold on the item.

Place Request allows you to place a hold. If you are not already logged in, you will need to type in your barcode number (found on your library card) and your password and click Log In.

On the next screen click Submit Request.

At this point, the website should tell you that your request has been placed. You can click on Return to Search Results to continue searching.

If we do not own a title, it may be possible to borrow it from another library in Kansas. You can request items that have been out for over 6 months. InterLibrary Loan requests can be made in person, over the phone, or online. For a link to the online ILL request form, click here.

What do I need to get a library card at APL?

*You do not need to be an Andover resident to get an Andover Library Card. You will need a current Driver's License to get a library card. If your license has your correct address, then you do not need to bring anything else with you. If your license does not have your correct address, please bring an item with your name and current address printed on it. For example, checks, rental agreement, mail, or insurance card are all acceptable items.

*The person whose name will be on the library card must be at the library at the time of registration.

*Children under the age of 16 must have a parent/guardian with a current driver's license with them at the time of registration. Children over the age of 4 may get their own library card at their parents' discretion.

What are the hours that APL processes passports?

The Andover Public Library has passport agents available without appointment Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm.

Does APL take donations?

The Andover Public Library welcomes donations of books, CDs, and movies. Unfortunately, we cannot accept magazines, textbooks or dated materials such as encyclopedias. If an item cannot be added to our collection, we will sell the item in our book sale to raise money for our summer reading programs.

Does APL check out cake pans?

Yes! We do check out cake pans to patrons. Our selection of cake pans includes cartoon characters, cars, animals, and a few basic shapes. You can browse our card catalog with the keywords cake pan to see our selection. Cake pans check out for 3 weeks.

Can I place materials other than books in the outside drop box?

Yes! All library materials can be placed in the outside drop box. (DVDs, CDs, VHS tapes, magazines, and books can all go in the outside drop box.) Please do not place donations in the outside drop box, we would appreciate it if you brought them inside so we can thank our generous donors.
