Andover Public Library/Public Computer Statement
-
Andover Public Library (APL) embraces the First
Amendment Right to Free Speech in that censorship is in violation of
the United States Constitution, and also embraces the American
Library Association's Free Speech Protection Act of 2008.
-
The 10 station computer lab is open to the entire
public, both patrons and non-patrons.
-
"All internet resources accessible through the
library are provided equally to all library users. Parents or
guardians, not the library or its staff, are responsible for the
Internet information selected and/or accessed by their children.
Parents - and only parents - may restrict their children - and only
their children - from access to Internet resources accessible though
the library. Parents and guardians are strongly advised to supervise
their children's internet use."
- From APL Internet Policy
-
"In response to advances in technology and the
changing needs of the community, APL endeavors to develop
collections, resources and services that meet the cultural,
informational, recreational, and educational needs of Andover's
diverse community. It is within this context that APL offers access
to the Internet." - From APL Internet Policy
If an APL computer user is seen viewing
inappropriate or offensive material -
sexually explicit or illegal/criminal as
defined by law - we address the issue
according to privacy policy/First Amendment
Rights. We would love to address all
of your questions. If you have other questions
or concerns, please ask for a
general complaint form at the front desk so
that our director can respond to your
concerns in writing in more detail.
